My four life goals are: 1. Fight Depression 2. Improve Executive Dysfunction 3. Create Lasting Friendships 4. Find Financial Stability. I will be sharing with all of you the tips I have learned so far in life. Also, the new ones I learn along the way. There is a comment section at the bottom of every post. Setting life goals is essential for trying to achieve personal growth and success. If you have ADHD, Autism, or both, like me, it comes with unique challenges. Life goals provide direction and a sense of purpose. Then, you break down the overwhelming tasks into smaller, manageable steps. I personally like using the website/phone app called Goblin Tools to help me break my goals down. The website is https://goblin.tools/
This journey is often complicated by difficulties in maintaining focus. Also, remembering the life goals that have been set. The forgetfulness and distractibility means I have to use specific strategies to stay on track. Sometimes, it feels as if i’m using what feels like endless amounts of phone and sticky note reminders.
Despite these hurdles, the act of setting goals remains a crucial part of my path to getting the life I want. It offers both structure and motivation amid the chaos.
AuDHD Life Goal #1: Fighting Depression
I’ve battled depression since my teenage years. I often feel the urge to stay in bed and never get out. Even now, I still have days. Both then and now, I want to spend all my time in a book escaping my reality. Some days there’s this crushing sadness that just won’t go away.
Autism and ADHD can amplify feelings of lonliness and frustration. Partially because of the difficulties in social interactions and sensory sensitivities of Autism combine with the impulsivity and misregulation of attention of ADHD. This can create a cycle where the symptoms of one condition makes those of another worse. This makes it harder to manage depression effectively. For that reason, recognizing this is crucial for developing coping strategies and seeking support.
AuDHD Life Goal #2: Improving Executive Dysfunction
Executive dysfunction greatly impacts my daily life by making it difficult to manage what feels like simple tasks. Activities, like completing household chores or staying on top of work deadlines, become overwhelming. I often struggle to initiate tasks, maintain focus, and follow through to completion.
This leads to a cycle of procrastination and frustration. I know what needs to be done but can’t seem to get myself to do. I find myself yelling at myself to get up and just do the thing. But it never works. I’m trying to be kinder to myself now and have more positive self-talk. The constant effort to manage these tasks takes a toll on my mental and emotional health. I’ve been trying so hard to find effective strategies and supports.
AuDHD Life Goal #3: Creating Lasting Friendships
Social connections are important for maintaining mental health. Good friends offer emotional support, a sense of belonging, and opportunities for personal growth. However, forming and maintaining friendships is particularly challenging for me due to my autism and ADHD.
Understanding social interactions can be difficult. It is hard to read social cues or engage in small talk. My ADHD can lead to impulsive behavior and forgetfulness. This can strain relationships. Despite these difficulties, I keep trying because I want some supportive friends. I often rely on structured environments and shared interests. And there is nothing wrong with that.
AuDHD Life Goal #4: Finding Financial Stability
I crave a level of independence and security that I can’t get without financial stability. That will also help me pursue life goals and handle unexpected expenses. However, managing finances is a significant challenge for me due to my autism and ADHD.
Keeping track of expenses, budgeting, and planning for the future requires a level of organization and consistency that I struggle with daily, if not hourly. Impulsive spending, struggle with keeping a reliable job, and the tendency to overlook bills or deadlines all contribute to my financial instability. Despite these challenges, I am committed to improving my financial literacy and management skills. As a result, I am currently seeking tools and resources to help me stay organized and make better financial decisions.
Summary
In summary, my four life goals are to fight depression, improve executive dysfunction, create lasting friendships, and find financial stability. Each life goal addresses an aspect of my well-being and requires ongoing effort. I encourage you to set and pursue your own life goals. By sharing our experiences and strategies, we can support each other and find strength in our joint efforts. I aslo invite you to share your own journey and the ways you handle life’s challenges. Together we can inspire and motivate one another.
